We live in the after-pandemic era. Covid has changed not only our way of life forever but also has changed our way of doing business. Some industries were almost gone, and some industries flourished. Also, business owners had to adjust their business models and the method of doing business. People were afraid to go shopping. Unfortunately, many become unemployed. The biggest problem for business owners was how to survive during those times.
Industries started to offer home deliveries for their customers. Home deliveries have become a significant source of income for many businesses. The only question remained how to build a new business model and accommodate the customers. It was a difficult task to do because home deliveries are almost unthinkable in some industries.
First, it was costly and unaffordable for many moms and pop enterprises. You had to hire a software developer and extra help to complete customers' orders and deliver them to the customers. Another problem for many was delivery cost because many customers wanted deliveries but didn't want to pay a high price.
The second problem was avoiding human contact as much as possible.
I have witnessed how some businesses benefited from home deliveries, and others didn't. In successful business models, home deliveries have become a great source of income even now. For others just a pain.
As a business owner of a courier company, I can recommend how to organize home deliveries to save money and make your customers happy.
First, you need to design a delivery service area. Second, you need to announce delivery hours. It can be twice a day. Between 10-1 and 5-8.
It would help if you priced your deliveries accordingly because doing deliveries, especially during traffic or when deliveries are on opposite sides, can consume much delivery time. The delivery rates should be reasonable for your business and the delivery service you are hiring.
Also, some computer programs don't recognize that deliveries in the same zip code can be outside your announced service area. Plus, if you promised a customer delivery by some specific time, you need to charge an extra service fee.
A final point, a business needs to ensure that there is enough information for a delivery company, such as name, address, phone number, sometimes second phone number, and delivery instructions.
Please remember that home deliveries can be effective when a partnership between a business and a delivery service exists. Always be in touch with a delivery service provider, don't ignore their request for a piece of extra information. Don't hesitate to contact a delivery company if you receive a customer's complaint about the delivery service. Don't pass your judgment about service only based on the customer's information about delivery.
